The letter from Paul to Titus<\/h3>\n

In his letter to Titus, the apostle Paul writes of the<\/p>\n

“Appearance of the glory of the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us.”<\/em>
\nTitus 2:13<\/p>\n

Is it being taught here now that Jesus is being addressed as God? That is the question here. Those who quote this verse do so so that the “deity of Jesus” can be proven. So the verse is to say that Jesus is God as God the Father is God.<\/p>\n

However, the relationship between God the Father and Jesus has already been mentioned by the apostle and he wrote to the Corinthians:<\/p>\n

“For though there are so-called gods (whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many gods and many lords), yet for us there is only One God, the Father,<\/strong> from whom is the universe (and we are turned to Him), and only One Lord, Jesus Christ,<\/strong> through whom the universe has become (and we are through Him.”<\/em>
\n1Cor 8,5-6<\/p>\n

Paul describes in these verses a clear distinction between the One God, the Father and the One Lord, Jesus Christ. There is a difference between the two. Jesus is not equal to the Father. These verses in Corinthians are unsurpassed in clarity.<\/p>\n

Now, should the letter to Titus say something completely different? If that were the case, then the statement in First Corinthians is not true. One of the statements is then misinterpreted. Which? The question must be met not with insinuations but with a search for answers. If one notices a difference, then the neutral is first of all only a difference. Only in a second step an explanatory interpretation is given.<\/p>\n
