“He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord!”
(1 Cor. 1:31).

Paul wrote these words to the church in Corinth, a bustling commercial city in Greece. Remarkably, there were some there who boasted of standing by “Christ” (1 Cor. 1:12). They boasted of their understanding of “Christ,” thus splitting themselves off from others who thought they stood with “Paul,” “Apollos,” or others. Sectarianism starts like this.

However, he who boasts in the Lord takes the place of a slave. So the one does not boast because of a special knowledge, but knows himself bought dearly by Christ (1Cor 7,23).

Know-it-allism and sectarianism come to an end at the cross.
